Pastoral
Care volunteers visit and take the Eucharist to parish members
unable to attend mass for health reasons. They also send cards of
compassion to parish members who are sick or have experienced a
loss.
The Pastoral Care committee is made up of committed individuals
who share the duties of taking communion to shut-in parishioners.
They meet as as Social Justice/Pastoral Care Committee about every
eight weeks, in the evenings. Dates and times are published in the
bulletin. Call the church office at 545-4051 for the next meeting
date.
Social Justice
committee members accept donations of clothing, food or household
items and deliver them to individuals and organizations in need.
Some of these local agencies include the Regina
Food Bank, Transition House (short-term shelter for women &
children), the Marian
Centre, Visitation House (drop-in centre for women & children)
, and the Isabel
Johnson Shelter (YWCA)
Members also assist refugee families who now make Regina their home.
They offer support and friendship, and help them get to medical
appointments and shopping. The goal is to help families and individuals
become independent and self sufficient while forming friendships
and promoting cultural understanding.
The Social Justice committee also has a focus on people living in
developing countries. This is done through work with the Canadian
Catholic Organization for Development and Peace.
Support is also shown to the less fortunate of our city by organizing
such events as the Birthright Shower (February), Thanksgiving Hamper
Drive and the Advent Giving Tree.
If you are interested
in meeting and helping people, you are invited to join the dedicated
volunteers of this committee.
